UNIVERSAL SENSOR BASED ON ELECTRICALLY-PUMPED MID-INFRARED SPECTROMETER ON SILICON CHIPS

UNISON is a cutting-edge European project funded by the European Union and coordinated by CNRS (Centre National de Recherche Scientifique). Bringing together 8 esteemed partners from 5 countries, UNISON focuses on advancing environmental monitoring through high-resolution optical spectroscopy in the mid-infrared (mid-IR) spectral range.

By pushing the boundaries of innovation in spectroscopy, UNISON aims to address pressing environmental challenges with precision and collaboration at its core.

Discover how we’re shaping the future of environmental monitoring.

Game changer technology with broad impact

A wide range of applications including environment, defense, security and industrial monitoring…

Long-term vision

Europe aims at leading the transition towards a healthy planet and a new digital world. Reaching zero pollution in a
toxic-free environment is at the heart of European Union priorities. This requires to better monitor, report and prevent
any pollution from air, water, soil, and consumer products, including hazardous chemicals, industrial emissions,
pesticides, and endocrine disruptors.

Ambitious objectives

The overall objective of the UNISON project is to develop and demonstrate a versatile on-chip dual comb
spectrometer in the mid-IR with performances not achievable using current state of the art solutions:
benefiting from over 500 cm-1 bandwidth, quasi-instantaneous response, switching between different spectral resolutions, and monolithically integrating sensing region with microlitre sample volume and ppb-level
detection capability. This will enable a universal high-end sensor scaled down on a square centimeter footprint,
compatible with high volume applications.
